Obama Clearly Supports Gay Marriage

The following passage was taken off of Barack Obama's campaign website:

Obama's Church is A Warm and Accepting Church Where All Races are Welcomed

November 12, 2007

Trinity United Church Of Christ Is Rooted In Chicago's South Side And Is The Largest UCC Congregation

Trinity United Church Of Christ Is The Largest UCC Congregation, A Liberal Denomination That Was The First To Ordain An African American, Woman, And Gay Man. "However incongruously, Trinity became the largest congregation in The United Church of Christ, a predominantly white denomination known for its liberal politics and steepled churches in small New England towns. The UCC, or Congregational church, as it is also called, was the first mainline Protestant church to ordain an African-American (1785), a woman (1853), and an openly gay man (1972), and the first major Christian denomination to endorse same-sex marriage (2005)." [Christian Science Monitor, 7/16/07]

This church is proud of ordaining an openly gay man? And the first to endorse same-sex marriage? Wow. . . talking about an apostate church if I ever heard one. So now not only does this church have the Black Liberation Theology, but issues with homosexuality acceptance to the point of ordaining ministers who still participate in the homosexual lifestyle. Blatant and completely uncaring of what the scriptures teach! Obama is obviously proud of his church's stance on gay marriage and homosexuality, otherwise he wouldn't have this article pasted on his campaign website!

Now, I'm just back to where I started, not knowing who I really want to vote for. I may do as the poster Pamela has stated she might possibly do - not vote at all! But, I will weigh very carefully what I must do. I may have to vote for McCain just to keep the dangerous possibility of people voting Obama in office with his gay marriage proposals lingering around.

Now if he should denounce homosexuality as he has done Rev. Wright, then that will be a different story!

Geesh, I hate politics!

Inspite of his mistakes - why I'll vote for Obama

After voting Republican these last four terms and yes, voting for Bush both of his terms I am making a change of pace. Before last year was even over, I changed my affiliation to Independent/Non-partisan. I was just tired of the mean-spiritness of fellow Republicans regarding illegal immigration, welfare, just to name a few. I no longer wanted to be associated with being a Republican. It just seemed like a new dirty word to me.

Living in San Diego, I tired easily of the seemingly demonization of illegal immigrants like they were some kind of evil monsters rather than just a group of people who mostly just want a better life. Do I want our borders protected? Yes I do! But at the expense of mean-spirited talk against the illegal immigrants? No. There has to be a better way.

Being a former welfare mom I've been tired of the mean spirited talked from ALL political party lines, but primarily from the Republicans whom I felt were being hypocritical. I went from being a respected homemaker while married, to being a lazy, handout-wanting no gooder even though I was doing the exact same work -- minding the children! I ignored the name calling, the disrespect and continued doing the job that I considered the most important job on earth. I did that for seven years. I lamented not getting support from my Republican homemakers and only once did I even hear a conservative woman offer her support - Dr. Laura - be even she was eventually swayed into the talk against welfare moms.

Anyways, back to Obama. He finally denounced Wright although it could have been sooner. He did show some character in not completely not wanting to throw Wright under the bus, but we did see it coming with his unwillingness to have Wright speak at functions that represented Obama, slowly distancing himself from the pastor whom he appears to loves dearly.

But painfully, he finally did cut the strings from the loony pastor. Hopefully the next step will be cutting the strings from that church. That just may be in the making. Obama has gotten my attention because he's showing the realization that if he is to appeal to ALL people, he must shrug his hypocrisy of being associated with a one-race minded church.

I've already received some scorn from my Republican friends. "How can you! You've lost your mind! He doesn't represent God! He's for abortion, you're not. He's for raising taxes. He's for gay marriage and you're not."

Well, that's what tears me up. I know I wasn't voting for Hillary, but McClain, I just don't like what I hear about his temper. And, I never hear him talk about Christ. Obama hasn't been shy at declaring his faith in Jesus Christ. His character matches his faith. But most important to me, he can be crucial in uniting people of all "races," with the exception of one group of people: the angry, bitter and racist black members of his church and the ones that think like them. There are plenty like that.

Obama has also declared his undying support to Israel. That is extremely important to me that as a Christian, he recognizes the importance on being on the side of the Jewish people and heeding God's warnings of those who stand against Israel, stand against Him.

As far as gay marriages and abortion goes, that is troubling to me. Although I did hear that Obama does not support gay marriage, but he supports gay unions. I also hear that Obama does support abortions if a woman's life was dependent upon it. But he's still more for abortion than against it.

What I also like about Obama and his wife are their involvement in helping communities. They are not too elitist where they can't help the downtrodden. McCain's wife is the heir to the Heinz Corporation. They don't have as visible history of working with the poor.

But I am open to someone, anyone changing my mind before voting comes. I've been back and forth but I've just found myself wanting this gentle man representing the United States. He showed me that he can be firm when pushed, as he was with Rev. Wright. That action is what won me over to him. I didn't want a "gentle" man that was weak and couldn't stand up for what he believed, but a man that CAN!

Obama, admit it - you made a mistake!

The irony of trying to appeal to a nation by being proposed as a president for ALL people while attending a church for "blacks only!" That was the mistake that Obama has made. At least one of his major mistakes. Associations are very important starting with what type of church you worship with.

Learning about Jesus and accepting His salvation is one thing, but the realization that this church has principles (The Black Value System) in addition to biblical principles should have been his first warning that something was wrong with this picture! There were other warning signs that this church is a bit off - their acceptance of homosexuals and the teaching that the bible may be wrong about gays, the emasculation of male leadership in the family with the acceptance of something called womanist theology. I found these things by reading a book by one of the church's teachers, Dr. Dwight Thompson. The book is titled: "Introducing Black Theology of Liberation," 1999.

On womanism...

(this one appears to make it a "sin" to be a homemaker)

Further, the church should encourage women to love themselves more. The more they take care of themselves and are not servants to or dependent on men, the more they will be able to develop more healthy relations. P 197
What does it mean to be black man and Christian? Part of the response includes a redefinition of maleness or manhood. Unfortunately today, there are privileges that African American men enjoy simply because of their gender. The black church cannot continue to proclaim that we are all created equal by God when black women in the church, the society, and at home are relegated to a secondary and subservient status. Furthermore, the black church loses all of its legitimacy when it critiques white racism as a sin but participates in attitudes and structures of patriarchy. P 197-198
and on homosexuals ...
The Bible is brought into the conversation as a justification to hold black lesbians and gays down. Yet it is a problem when African American churches interpret the Bible as wrong when it calls on slaves to obey their masters and women to obey men, and then the black church interprets the Bible as saying homosexuals cannot be saved unless they become heterosexuals. P 199
This again is from one of the teachers at Trinity United Church of Christ, and has been a spokesman on national television throughout Obama's campaign.

I equate Obama being part of this church akin to being a part of a cult, and awakening to the realization that he's been duped and needs to get out. Cult members usually don't go from "I love this place" to "somethings wrong" in one day. It's a process, and a process I see Obama experiencing.

One day perhaps he will finally admit, "I made a mistake." One day, perhaps, he will take his family, convince his strong-minded wife that they need to be in a place of worship that represents all people. If it is to be a black church, then a black church that will be open to all and not afrocentric.

It's sad that it's taken his political aspirations to bring him to this point of realization. But better late than never?

That remains to be seen.

Rev. Wright Just Won't Quit!

No, no no! Rev. Wright, your church does not represent most black churches! (See San Diego Union-Tribune article "Obama's ex-pastor reignites controversy".) The majority of black churches don't practice the "other gospel" of Black Liberation Theology. Nor do most black churches support homosexuals in positions of leadership in the church, nor downgrade the importance of the headship of the husband in his family as your church does!

Obama must see clearly now that he truly made a gargantuan mistake at being a member of your church, for the sake of "joining" the black community! This is the same mistake that black people make by partaking of Kwanzaa, supporting Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson in their lunatic grandstanding protests against white racism and the like.

I genuinely believe that Barack Obama does NOT believe as Rev. Wright does, but unfortunately he now appears "weak" in the eyes of many for not taking a stand sooner and leaving that church in a hurry! Many are confused by Obama's association with this pastor. The question remains, how could he be a part of that church for so long and not know of Rev. Wrights raves and rants? Many answer that question by believing he did know exactly what Wright preaches and teaches so therefore, he must think like him too! That is Obama's dilemma.

My family experienced somewhat the same situation of Barack Obama. In our case it was Dr. Karenga, the creator of Kwanzaa, as my sister's "spiritual mentor." He was close to her, so close that he, like Rev. Wright and Obama, married my sister and her husband. It was painful for me to go to her wedding knowing good and well that Karenga made mockery of Christianity and spoke terribly of white people. I was supposed to be her matron of honor, but refused to participate. It was only the tears of my mother that got me and my family to that wedding.

What was so perplexing to me about my sister is that six days of the week, she mingled with her white friends who she loved dearly while participating with Karenga's black activist group, the US Organization on Sundays! My sister appeared to be a black radical and how offended would her white friends be if they knew of her involvement! But she loved her friends (and still does) as they are a very important part of her life!

My experience with my sister has helped me to understand somewhat Barack Obama's position. Even if he knew of Rev. Wright's fanaticism, I could see his yearning to be a part of this "black identity." Of course, folks such as myself know better and would never be a part of organizations such as the US group, or Rev. Wright's church. I have been a member of a black church here in San Diego and it in no way resembles Rev. Wright's church! The gospel of Christ was not compromised for the sake of being black in this church (Bayview Baptist of San Diego), and anyone of any color was welcomed!

I did eventually leave this church because I wanted a church that had more diversity. I found that church in the Rock Church of San Diego. Ironically, the pastor is black, but you wouldn't know it by the congregation. The preaching is also centered upon the gospel of Christ - no compromise which unfortunately Rev. Wright's church has done to please people and not God!

I really like Obama and believes he loves all people and is quite different from a Sharpton or J Jackson. But his 20 year association with Rev. Wright is very disturbing and one wonders that if he didn't have the backbone to standup to this guy sooner, what kind of backbone will he have in being the president of the United States?

How he handles Rev. Wright now may make a difference - or it may be too much too little too late!

About this Rev. Wright Mess

(This is no April Fools!)

It's disturbing to me to see ANY black church in support of the Black Liberation Theology (BLT). It's "another gospel" that the scriptures warns us about:

"I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in he grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. Galatians 1:6-8

How is the "BLT" theology another gospel? It teaches that the oppressed are black people and white people are the oppressors that we must be freed from. If you are black and poor, then God is automatically with you. If you are white, then you are automatically of the devil.

This teaching does nothing more than incite bigotry and reverse racism and its appalling of the number of Black churches that practice this. Obama should have tested this church by simply asking his mother and grandmother would they be comfortable going to this church. If as evangelical Christians, we can't bring anyone of any ethnicity to our church for spiritual feeding, then we have no business being a part of it!

More on this later.

This is just getting me started.
